Cambodia, UNDP to Strengthen Energy Partnership

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy and the United Nations Development Program have agreed to further strengthen the energy partnership. This was discussed during the meeting of Minister of Mines Suy Sem and UNDP Country Director Alissar Chaker.

Minister Suy Sem has relayed to the UNDP director the Ministry’s vision and priority projects related to energy efficiency development, as well as the opportunities and initiatives to continue and promote energy cooperation. He has also thanked the UNDP in Cambodia for its cooperation and support the kingdom’s energy development projections including capacity building financial assistance, technical and research projects, consultation projects, legal framework and other measures with a total of 10 projects for this year.

The Minister has also informed UNDP about other development in Cambodia’s energy sector such as the Results of Cambodia Energy Sector Development Master Plan with ADB, Progress of the National Policy on Energy Efficiency and the Position of the Cambodian Energy Sector on Climate Change.

UNDP Country Director Alissar Chaker has stated that they will continue to seek assistance and financial assistance from other development partners for the development of Cambodia's energy sector, particularly the focus on energy efficiency and combat projects against climate change.
